A record number of 32,000 people have attended the Ed Sheeran concert at nib Stadium last night, making this the highest attended event ever at Perth’s state-of-the-art rectangular stadium.

VenuesWest Chief Executive Officer David Etherton says, “Not since the Foo Fighters back in March have this many patrons attended nib Stadium and I commend all staff including security, the venue response team and food and beverage staff for making it a great success.”

Due to the size of the event and the number of tickets sold, more than 215 security personnel were in attendance to ensure a safe and positive experience for all patrons.

“It is fantastic that to work with Frontier Touring to bring one of the world’s most popular musicians to Perth to play at nib Stadium, which is owned by VenuesWest on behalf of the State government.”

“This is the second time that Ed Sheeran has played in Perth but this is the first time he has played at nib Stadium and we are delighted Ed Sheeran and Frontier Touring chose our venue.

Following the huge success at Foo Fighters, VenuesWest chose to present the same stage configuration by facing across the pitch towards the recently constructed East Grandstand. Mr Etherton added that there were very few instances where security was required and both patrons and staff expressed their enjoyment and delight with both the venue and concert.

In 2013, the State invested $95 million into the redevelopment of nib Stadium, which included the construction of the eastern and southern grandstands, as well as the installation of new electronic scoreboards. In sporting mode, the venue’s capacity is 20,299.

VenuesWest is Western Australia’s provider of premier sports, recreation and entertainment venues and its portfolio includes the world class Perth Arena and the redeveloped nib Stadium as well as Perth Stadium to be completed in 2018. These are in addition to HBF Stadium, HBF Arena, WA Athletics Stadium, Bendat Basketball Centre, Midvale Speeddome, Perth Motorplex, Champion Lakes Regatta Centre and the WA Rugby Centre, State Netball Centre and the Western Australian Institute of Sports High Performance Service Centre.
